Maaike de Loos: “Toen wij in 2007 ons jaren 30 rij­tjeshuis betrokken, was er nauwelijks isolatie, alleen dubbelglas. Bij klussen namen wij isolatie al mee, maar in 2013 ging de knop om: na de aardbevingen in Groningen, waar we gewoond hebben, wilden we serieus verduurzamen.

Zoekend naar zonnepanelen, ontdekte ik PVT-panelen: zonnepanelen met een ingebouwde warmtewisselaar die energie vanuit de buitenlucht naar een warmtepomp overbrengt. Zo’n systeem benut het dak optimaal én is stil. Ideaal in ons dichtbebouwde Leiden.

Na plaatsing van HR++ glas op de bovenverdie­ping en dakisolatie, werden eind 2017 de PVT-panelen met een water-water warmtepomp geplaatst. De gasmeter kon eruit.
Eerst met oude paneelradiatoren en zonder vloerisolatie. Het huis was warm, maar alles zou efficiënter worden met verdere isolatie en lage temperatuur verwarming. We hebben de vloer geïsoleerd, de achterpui van tripleglas voorzien en deels convectieradiatoren laten plaatsen. We zijn nog niet helemaal klaar, maar we betalen al jaren nauwelijks energie­kosten. En nu help ik als energiecoach anderen.”

Maaike: "A 1930s house off the gas and almost energy neutral. We have been doing this since 2017, with a PVT system."

Maaike de Loos: “When we moved into our 1930s terraced house in 2007, there was hardly any insulation, only double glazing. We already included insulation when doing odd jobs, but in 2013 the switch was flipped: after the earthquakes in Groningen, where we lived, we wanted to seriously make it more sustainable.

While searching for solar panels, I discovered PVT panels: solar panels with a built-in heat exchanger that transfers energy from the outside air to a heat pump. Such a system makes optimum use of the roof and is quiet. Ideal in our densely built-up Leiden.

After installing HR++ glass on the top floor and roof insulation, the PVT panels with a water-water heat pump were installed at the end of 2017. The gas meter could be removed.
First with old panel radiators and without floor insulation. The house was warm, but everything would become more efficient with further insulation and low temperature heating. We insulated the floor, fitted the rear façade with triple glazing and had convection radiators installed in part. We are not quite finished yet, but we have hardly paid any energy costs for years. And now I help others as an energy coach.”
