Grondwaterpeil gaat naar beneden / Groundwater going down

22.04.2024 : UPDATE. Een artikel in het Leidsche Dagblad meldt een enigszins genuanceerd antwoord van de gemeente. Een woordvoerster zegt: "De Professorenwijk heeft geen structureel hoge grondwaterstanden. In de wijk gaan we het grondwaterpeil niet zozeer verlagen, maar we gaan het grondwater wel reguleren, hiermee voorkomen we extremen."

Ook zegt de gemeente dat het de verantwoordelijkheid van de bewoners is om hun kelder waterdicht te maken.
Maar er ligt een plan voor een netwerk aan drainage en eerst wordt het oostelijk deel van de wijk aangepakt. En dan zullen andere delen van de stad volgen. “De komende jaren wordt op deze manier een gebied ter grootte van ongeveer 80 voetbalvelden klaargemaakt voor de toekomst."

05.04.2024 : Tijdens de Profburgwijk ALV vorige week klaagden een aantal leden dat het grondwaterpeil in de wijk te hoog was, waardoor sommige kelders en kruipruimtes te vochtig werden of zelfs onder water kwamen te staan. Het bestuur heeft toegezegd hierover contact op te nemen met de gemeente.
Het bestuur is nu verheugd te kunnen mededelen dat de gemeente heeft ingestemd met een verlaging van het waterpeil. Dat zou de grootste problemen in onze wijk moeten oplossen.

UPDATE. An article in the Leidsche Dagblad reports a somewhat nuanced answer from the municipality. A spokeswoman says: "The Professorenwijk does not have structurally high groundwater levels. We are not going to lower the groundwater level in the district, but we are going to regulate the groundwater, in order to prevent extremes."

The municipality also says that it is the residents' responsibility to make their basement waterproof.
But there is a plan for a drainage network and the eastern part of the district will be tackled first. And then other parts of the city will follow. “In the coming years, an area the size of approximately 80 football fields will be prepared for the future in this way."

05.04.2024: During the Profburgwijk AGM last week, a number of members complained that the groundwater level in the district was too high, causing some basements and crawl spaces to become too humid or even flooded. The board has agreed to contact the municipality about this.
The board is now pleased to announce that the municipality has agreed to a lowering of the water level. That should solve the biggest problems in our district.
