Herdenking wegvoering kinderen en verzorgers Joods weeshuis / Commemoration of the deportation of children and caregivers of the Jewish orphanage

15.02.2025 : Op 17 maart 1943 werden de kinderen en het personeel van het Joods Weeshuis aan de Rodenburgerstraat weggevoerd naar Westerbork. Bijna allen vonden kort daarna de dood. Ook dit jaar, 2025, willen wij dat herdenken.

Leerlingen van groep acht van basisschool St. Joseph zullen enkele door henzelf gemaakte gedichten voordragen en de namen van de kinderen en verzorgers voorlezen. Zij hebben dit voorbereid in de klas met hun leerkracht.

Bezoekers en de leerlingen kunnen daarna steentjes en bloemen leggen bij de koffer die voor het Joods weeshuis is geplaatst.

De bijeenkomst vindt plaats van 14.00 tot 15.00 vóór het voormalig weeshuis, Roodenburgerstraat 1a. Na afloop van de voordracht van de kinderen zal de bijeenkomst zal worden afgesloten met het zeggen van het Kaddish, een Joods gebed voor de overledenen.

U bent van harte welkom om deze herdenking bij te wonen.

De herdenking wordt georganiseerd door de Stichting Herdenking Jodenvervolging Leiden en de wijkvereniging Professoren en Burgermeesterwijk in samenwerking met de St. Joseph school.

Commemoration of the deportation of children and caregivers of the Jewish orphanage
On 17 March 1943, the children and staff of the Jewish Orphanage on Rodenburgerstraat were deported to Westerbork. Almost all of them died shortly afterwards.

We want to commemorate this again this year, 2025. Pupils from group eight of St. Joseph primary school will recite a few poems they wrote themselves and read out the names of the children and caregivers. They prepared this in class with their teacher.

Visitors and pupils can then place pebbles and flowers at the trunk that has been placed in front of the Jewish orphanage.

The meeting will take place from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM in front of the former orphanage, Roodenburgerstraat 1a. After the children's recitation, the meeting will be concluded with the saying of the Kaddish, a Jewish prayer for the deceased.

You are most welcome to attend this commemoration. The commemoration is organized by the Stichting Herdenking Jodenvervolging Leiden and the neighborhood association Professoren en Burgermeesterwijk in collaboration with the St. Joseph school.
